Furniture can arrive on time while the office still has no working phones, usable network, or access to the business application. Moving technology is a coordination project with dependencies that need to be resolved before equipment is unplugged.

Make the move ready before equipment travels

Make the move ready before equipment travels. Coordinate the services staff must keep using before equipment is unplugged.

RDA's approach begins with the work the organization must continue doing. From there, the move can be planned around the services, equipment, providers, and decisions that support it.

Establish the new location’s readiness

Confirm internet service, building access, power, equipment space, cabling, wireless coverage, and the responsibilities of the landlord and service providers. Dates should be based on confirmed commitments rather than an assumption that a service order will be ready on moving day.

Account for the services people rely on

Identify the business systems, files, printers, communications, and remote users affected by the move. User Credentials depends on the directory or identity service remaining available. Domain controllers, DNS, cloud connections, and application access may therefore be part of the move dependencies. See the directory and Server Roles connection.

Assign handoffs and decisions

Name the person who authorizes the schedule, the providers responsible for each service, and the staff who will confirm that work can resume. Keep a current inventory and document where equipment will be installed. Changes to the network or security design should have their own approval and acceptance checks.

Test the business activities

Agree on representative tests before the move. Can approved users sign in? Can they open the application, retrieve files, print required documents, and place or receive the relevant calls? Check remote access and any site-dependent equipment as applicable. A powered-on server is not a complete business acceptance test.

Keep a continuity option

Define what happens if a carrier, installation, or critical system is not ready. That may change the move sequence, require a temporary work arrangement, or preserve a service at the original site until the handover is accepted. Confirm who can make that decision and when it must be made. Test the continuity arrangement before moving day.

RDA can coordinate the inventory, providers, schedule, installation, and acceptance checks. The intended result is a move whose dependencies and remaining decisions are visible before they affect staff and clients.
